Wouldn’t it be great to have a standard protocol of treatment for rosacea? A treatment protocol, which regulated the practice of prescribing treatments that, caused further damage to the skin. Check the warning labels on any medication, cream or lotion in your medicine cabinet and you will most likely see the warning that this product may cause rash, itching or skin redness. When you have rosacea, these are the very symptoms you are trying to relieve.

It seems that in the treatment of rosacea, treatment can become a contradiction. If you treat the acne aspect of rosacea with acne medications, you end up with red, dry, irritated skin, which becomes hypersensitive to anything applied to the skin.

Laser treatments used to rid the skin of the spider veins by sealing off the blood vessels will cause your body to go into survival mode and create new veins to supply necessary nutrients and blood to the skin to keep it alive and supple.

When you apply toners, astringents, products containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid to control excess oil, you find that the more you try to reduce the oil, the more oil your skin produces and in this vicious cycle, your skin becomes red, raw and irritated. Again the reason for this is your skin is in survival mode – the oil on your skin’s surface creates a protective barrier to keep bacteria out of the body and to retain the body needs for survival. The more you try to remove the oil, the more your body’s own defenses try to protect it.
The solution is quite simple – provide the body and thereby the skin as the body’s largest organ with adequate moisture for survival; achieve a balance in the pH levels of your body and your skin will thrive, and to help the skin in its healing, apply a drop or two of jojoba oil to aid the skin in achieving normal oil production. Jojoba oil is very similar to the oil produced by your body and will ‘trick’ the body into believing that the oil levels are sufficient for protection of the skin.

The perfect treatment for rosacea may be a simple as a change of habit, a modification of your daily routine. Provide the skin with that which it is lacking and it will perform at its best.
